Body, Soul and Spirit, mixed media on canvas, 85×85 cm, Melinda Dovak, Budapest, Hungary, 2022.
The artwork portrays an inner psychological landscape in which body, soul, and spirit do not exist as separate layers but as interwoven, fluid forms. At its center sits a seed-like human figure, evoking the germ of individuation—the inner core from which wholeness can unfold. Encircling it, the translucent blue form may be interpreted as a visual manifestation of the Jungian Self (Selbst), the archetype of psychic totality that encompasses both the conscious and the unconscious realms of the personality.
The mist-like, clouded transitions evoke the psyche’s evolving and elusive contents, as though an inner vision were gradually taking shape before our eyes. The fields of pink and blue suggest the meeting of inner opposites, the reconciliation of polarities. The central figure appears not confined but held within the embrace of the larger form, whose presence is at once protective and transformative.
In this way, the image becomes a narrative of the individual’s return to the self—a metaphor for encountering the deeper layers of personality and for the journey toward authenticity and psychological integration. Its floating, dreamlike composition captures a quiet yet profoundly powerful moment of inner growth and transformation.
